Apple Revamps App Store Rules to Dodge EU Fines
Apple has overhauled its App Store fee structure in response to EU antitrust pressure, slashing developer commissions to avoid escalating penalties. The tech giant now imposes a 20% service fee—down from 30%—with further reductions to 13% for small businesses and 5-15% for off-platform payments.
Regulators had previously fined Apple €500 million for DMA violations related to payment restrictions. The revised policy allows developers to direct users to alternative payment methods, addressing core competition concerns. Brussels appears likely to approve these changes, marking a significant concession from the Cupertino-based firm.
